Monochromatic approach with window coverings gives illusion of spaceJun 16 2011 ![]() One way to expand the look of a room is to use window coverings in the same color as the walls. One way to give the illusion of more space is to use window treatments - including hardware, such as rods and curtain rings - in the same color as the adjoining walls. The effect is a sweeping view unbroken by changes in hues that would otherwise break up the look, according to House Beautiful magazine. Two window coverings that are ideal choices to achieve this look are fabric roller shades or custom drapery. Both can easily incorporate the colors and textures of materials used elsewhere in the room where they are installed. The same effect can be achieved by using a shower curtain in a tiny bathroom or powder room that creates a monochromatic color scheme with existing wall paint or window treatments. In a bedroom, the magazine advises using a stylish new bed ensemble that reflects the main wall color. In rooms where privacy is an important consideration, the use of light-filtering window shades will allow natural light to permeate a room while limiting exposure to the outside world.
