Creating a rustic, country look for your interior design
Mar 14 2011
A rustic look for your home's interiors is a popular and functional way to decorate your space, but weighing the proportions can be a tricky proposition. Luckily, author and interior designer Terry John Woods offered his insight on crafting a country aesthetic in your home that combines contemporary and classic combinations with the Miami Herald.
A rustic interior design will help you feature your window treatments and other accents prominently.
First and foremost, Woods suggests incorporating your family heirlooms and other vintage furnishings into your design to show personality. In addition, the re-purposing of everyday objects in decorative and functional ways in a recurring theme in his designs. For instance, Woods used a worn wooden fence as a headboard in a bedroom and antique wooden shutters for a living room as wall art.
Woods believes the most important aspect to a rustic design is to blur the contrast between indoors and outdoors. This can include outdoor pieces that are used as accents such as watering cans as flower pots or storage containers.
Bamboo woven wood shades are a beautiful accent for your rustic design and can add depth to your windows. The versatile shades will help improve your home's energy efficiency and provide warmth to your living areas.
