First, O'Neill has turned one room into a series of mini-rooms by carefully arranging furniture and colors to reflect the function of the area. From lounge to living room, each section is distinct, yet the theme seamlessly blends with the rest of the abode.

She has also used pieces of furniture for multiple purposes. One farm table acts as a desk, but can easily be cleared when company arrives and there's need for a dining table.

Maximizing the amount of light in a room can also make it feel more open. Window treatments such as soft sheer shades can be ideal for smaller homes, because they can bring the outdoors in and offer an expansive view of the scenery.
