Bamboo shades are an eco-friendly option for window treatments

"Green can be fun," designer Linda Woodrum of HGTV told the Boston Globe. "You don't have to make sacrifices in terms of aesthetics."

According to the news source, Woodrum recently designed a sustainable decor for HGTV's 2010 Green Home Giveaway. She used low-VOC paints and recycled materials through out the home. "I wanted the house to be lively and vibrant - appealing to all age groups."

Homeowners looking to mimic Woodrum's green-but-stylish interior decorating approach can dress their rooms with eco-friendly items.

Bamboo shades are a great way to spruce up one's windows. Available in a range of colors, they can add warmth and texture to any room, without negatively impacting the environment.

The Environmental Protection Agency reports bamboo harvesting does not destroy the fast-growing grass' root system, making it a great renewable resource.
