Q:

How do I remove the existing horizontal window blinds that are mounted in my windows?

A:
Removing window blinds or shades will vary depending on the product. Each type of window covering has its own type of mounting hardware and therefore removing them will be different.

Horizontal blinds can range from wood and faux wood blinds or a aluminum mini blinds. Most horizontal blinds have similar mounting brackets. Follow these simple steps to removing the blinds.
  1. First, remove the valance if there is one on the blinds. Most valances are mounted with a clip that will attach at the top of the headrail. The valance usually can be removed by simply lifting if off the blinds.
  2. Next, open the brackets. After the valance is removed you should have access to the headrail of the blinds and the mounting brackets. There will be a bracket at each end of the headrail. The brackets are opened by lifting the door or hinged side of the bracket. Most brackets have a tab that keeps the hinged side closed. You may need to use a screwdriver to gently lift the hinged side off the tab.
  3. Once the brackets are open, simply remove the window blinds from the brackets.
  4. Next, remove the brackets from the window frame by removing the screws that hold them in place.

Q:

Can you replace vertical blinds?

A:
You can replace slats on vertical blinds. You do however, need to determine what clip size you have, and if your replacement is compatible with the depth, and distance of clips on your head rail.

Q:

Can bent mini blinds be repaired?

A:
Bent mini blinds can be repaired. First you have to remove your blinds from the brackets. Put on protective gloves so that you do not cut your hands on the edges of the blinds. For a flat slat mini blind, you want to find a flat 1” piece of wood as close to the length of the slat you can find. Place the bent slat on the flat piece of wood. Use your hand to smooth out the damaged slat. You can also use a hard, smooth ball to roll over the damaged slat. You can try to flip the slat over to massage the other side of the slat. Keep doing this until your slat retains the appearance that you are looking for. For a curved slat, you want to use a ¾” wooden dowel. Place the dowel on a flat surface and then on the underside of the damaged slat. Apply pressure with your hands until you reach the desired appearance.
