Q:

Do you make ceiling mounted blinds? I have a bay window that need three seperate blinds and can not mount inside or outside.

A:
Our window blinds and window shades offer versatile mounting options, with most styles available for ceiling installation (also called top mounting). Wood blinds and faux wood blinds include mounting brackets that work for both side and ceiling installation. Additional products such as bamboo shades, roller shades or roman shades come with brackets for either side or top mounting as standard or can be specially ordered for ceiling mounting. For questions about specific products or unique installations, our customer service team is ready to help.

When installing ceiling mount blinds and shades, you'll attach them either to the top of your window frame (inside mount) or directly to the ceiling (outside mount). Please note that arch top windows aren't compatible with this mounting style. Window shades like roller shades and honeycomb cell shades typically include top mount brackets. If your space doesn't allow for top mounting into the window frame, simply request side mount brackets instead.

Ceiling-Mount Blinds — FAQs

What does “ceiling mount” mean and why choose it?

Ceiling mount fixes the headrail to the ceiling (or soffit) instead of the window frame. It’s ideal when the frame is shallow, you want the look of taller windows, to clear door handles, or to cover uneven tops and trim lines.

Which products work best for ceiling mounting?

Roller blinds, panel track, vertical blinds, cellular shades (honeycomb), and Roman shades all ceiling-mount well. Many include top cassettes/valances for a clean, architectural finish.

How do I measure for ceiling-mounted blinds or shades?

Measure the finished width you want to cover (add 2–3" per side for better darkening/privacy) and the drop from ceiling to desired bottom. Confirm the ceiling is level; if not, plan to set the bottom to a consistent height and shim brackets as needed. As a general rule, if you order as an inside mount, we will take deductions. An outside mount, we take no deductions, but please follow the instructions on each product.

Will a ceiling mount help with light leaks and blackout performance?

Often, yes. Mounting at the ceiling lets you overlap above the window and cover top gaps that let light in. For the darkest rooms choose room darkening or blackout shades, pair with wider side overlap, side channels (on rollers), or add lined drapery panels at the sides.

What hardware and support do I need for wide or heavy shades?

Use the manufacturer’s ceiling-mount brackets and follow spacing guidelines (typically a bracket near each end and additional center supports on wide spans). Fasten into joists or use appropriate ceiling anchors; for very wide or tall installs, consider motorization to reduce lift strain.

Can I ceiling-mount into drywall or concrete ceilings?

Yes, but use the right anchors. Whenever possible, fasten into joists. For drywall, use heavy-duty toggle or structural anchors rated for the load; for concrete, use masonry anchors/sleeves. Follow bracket spacing and weight limits from the manufacturer.

How high should I ceiling-mount over patio doors or sliders?

Mount flush to the ceiling (or soffit) and size the drop to clear handles and trim by at least 1/2–1". For Romans or wood blinds, account for stack height so the door operates freely when shades are raised.

Will a ceiling mount make my windows look taller and more modern?

Yes. Running shades from ceiling to a consistent bottom line elongates the wall and creates an architectural, hotel-like look. Extend the width 2–3" past the frame on each side for a cleaner proportion and better coverage.

How do I keep multiple ceiling-mounted shades perfectly aligned?

Snap a chalk line or use a laser level across the ceiling, then pre-mark bracket centers. Shim as needed on uneven substrates. For long walls of glass, consider a shared cassette or multiple window blinds on one headrail to maintain a single, straight top line.

What are my power options for motorized ceiling-mounted shades?

Rechargeable battery (clean install, occasional charging), plug-in (locate an outlet near the headrail), or hardwired for frequent use and large spans. Plan cable routing or prewire in the ceiling for the neatest finish.
