Video Description
New to Bali motorized shades? This quickstart shows how to install the Bali Motorization app, connect your Bali gateway or direct Bluetooth, add shades, set limits and Favorite positions, and create your first routine so you can control light with a tap.
What You’ll Need
- Phone/tablet with the Bali Motorization app (latest version)
- Bali gateway/hub (or direct Bluetooth model) with power nearby
- Wi-Fi credentials (2.4 GHz typically), or Ethernet to your router
- Your Bali motorized shades powered and within range
Step 1 — Install the App & Sign In
- Download the Bali Motorization app and open it.
- Create or sign in to your Bali account and confirm home/location.
Step 2 — Connect the Gateway (or Bluetooth)
- Gateway: Plug in power (and Ethernet if using wired). In the app go to Settings > Add Gateway, choose Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and follow prompts. Name it (e.g., “Main Floor”). If prompted, update firmware.
- Bluetooth models: Ensure Bluetooth is on. In the app, choose Add Shade and follow the pairing instructions when the shade appears.
Step 3 — Add Your Shades
- Open Devices/Shades > Add Shade (or Discover).
- If not auto-found, put the shade in pairing mode per its Bali instructions.
- Name each shade and assign it to the correct Room (you can make Groups later).
Step 4 — Set Upper/Lower Limits (Accuracy First)
- Select a shade > Settings > Positions/Limits.
- Move to the highest safe point > tap Set Upper Limit.
- Move just above the sill/obstacle > tap Set Lower Limit.
- Run two full cycles to learn the endpoints. For TDBU cellular, set limits for the mid rail and bottom rail separately.
Step 5 — Save a Favorite (“My”) Position
- Move the shade (or rail) to your ideal everyday spot.
- Open Favorites/Preset > Save New Favorite and name it (e.g., “Daylight 40%”).
Step 6 — Create Your First Routine
- Go to Automations/Routines > Create Routine. Name it (e.g., “Evening Close”).
- Choose a trigger: Time or Sunrise/Sunset (with offset).
- Add an action: move a Shade/Room/Group to a Favorite or a specific percentage. Save, then test once.
Everyday Control
- Tap a shade tile for Up/Stop/Down or a percentage slider.
- Use your saved Favorites for one-tap positions.
- Rooms/Groups move multiple windows together for a coordinated look.
Best Practices
- Place the gateway centrally and a few feet high for better range.
- Keep names obvious (e.g., “Kitchen Sink” vs. “Shade 3”).
- Avoid schedule overlap—stagger routines targeting the same shade.
- After any limit change, cycle the shade twice and re-save Favorites.
Troubleshooting
- Shade not found: Move closer, ensure power, re-enter pairing mode, and check the gateway is online.
- Routine didn’t run: Confirm it’s enabled for that day and the gateway time zone/location is correct.
- Hem not level: Re-seat brackets (install issue) or re-set limits and run two learning cycles.
- TDBU rails misaligned: Re-calibrate each rail’s upper/lower limits and update Favorites.
