Video Description
This quick video and step-by-step checklist walks you through setting up a Bali motorization gateway device so your Bali motorized shades connect to the Bali Motorization app (and, if supported, voice assistants and automations). You’ll place and power the gateway, join it to your network, add it in the app, update firmware, and then discover/import your shades into rooms and groups.
What You Need
- Bali gateway device (with power adapter and, if included, an Ethernet cable)
- Bali Motorization app installed and signed in on your phone/tablet
- Network access: Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz typically required) or Ethernet to your router
- Your Wi-Fi SSID & password (if using wireless)
Before You Start
- Placement: Put the gateway near your router for the first setup, then move it to a central spot within range of your shades. Keep it off the floor and away from large metal objects.
- Network tips: Many gateways use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for range. If you see both 2.4 and 5 GHz networks, choose 2.4 for setup.
- Account ready: Open the Bali Motorization app and confirm you’re signed in with the correct home/location.
Step-by-Step Setup
- Power the gateway: Plug in the power adapter. Wait for the status LED to show “ready to pair” (see your model’s card for exact LED pattern).
- Connect to your network:
- Wi-Fi: In the app, go to Settings > Add Gateway (names may vary), choose Wi-Fi, pick your SSID, and enter the password.
- Ethernet: Connect the cable from gateway to router. The app should detect a wired gateway automatically.
- Add in the app: Follow the on-screen prompt to scan a QR code on the gateway or select it from the nearby devices list. Name it (e.g., “Main Floor Gateway”).
- Update firmware: If prompted, run the update now to ensure reliable pairing and features.
- Import or pair shades: From Devices/Shades, tap Add Shade (or Discover). If your Bali shades are already powered and within range, they may be detected automatically. Otherwise, put each shade into pairing mode per its Bali instructions and add it.
- Organize rooms & groups: Assign each shade to a room; create groups for whole-room control. Test Up / Stop / Down for each device.
Optional: Voice & Automations (If Supported)
- In the app, open Integrations (or similar) and follow prompts to link a supported assistant/platform.
- Create scenes/automations (morning/evening) using saved Favorites or time triggers.
Best Practices
- Place the gateway centrally and elevated (bookshelf or cabinet top) for best coverage.
- Large homes may benefit from a second gateway or relocating the gateway closer to distant rooms.
- After adding shades, cycle them once and set upper/lower limits and Favorite positions in the app for precise control.
Troubleshooting
- Gateway not found: Move your phone closer, reboot your router, and power-cycle the gateway. Temporarily disable VPNs during setup.
- Wi-Fi won’t join: Use 2.4 GHz SSID, confirm WPA2 password, and avoid special characters if possible. Try Ethernet for the first connection, then switch to Wi-Fi.
- Shades not discovered: Verify the gateway is online, stand closer to the shade, and put the shade into pairing mode again. Check that the shade’s batteries/power are good.
- Intermittent control: Reposition the gateway away from routers, microwaves, or dense walls; update firmware; and ensure your phone and app are up to date.
- Factory reset (as a last resort): Press/hold the gateway’s reset pin/button per the quick-start card (often 10–15 seconds) and re-add it in the app.
