Video Description
This guide covers Bali brand motorization only. You’ll learn how to use the Bali Motorization app to fine-tune advanced positions: adjust stack heights on Top-Down/Bottom-Up (TDBU) cellular shades, set precise upper and lower limits, and save Favorite positions for one-tap control.
What You Need
- Installed Bali motorized shades (cellular, TDBU cellular, roller, etc.)
- Bali Motorization app (latest version), signed in
- Bali hub or Bluetooth connection powered on (per your system)
- Phone/tablet within a few feet of the shade when programming
1) Adjusting Stack Heights for TDBU Cellular Shades
TDBU shades have two moving rails: the mid rail (top-down) and the bottom rail (bottom-up). “Stack height” is the fabric stack when a rail is fully raised.
- Open the app > select your Bali TDBU cellular shade.
- Tap Settings (or Shade Settings) > Positions / Calibration.
- Choose Top-Down Rail (mid rail). Use Up / Down controls to position the rail at the desired top stack height (how far down from the headrail you want the mid rail to stop when “fully up”).
- Tap Set Upper Limit (for the mid rail). Confirm/save.
- Repeat for the Bottom Rail if you want a tighter or looser bottom stack (how high the bottom rail sits when fully raised). Move the rail, then Set Upper Limit for the bottom rail.
- Test: Send the shade to fully open (top-down) and fully raised (bottom-up). If you see rubbing or a light gap you didn’t intend, nudge each rail a few percent and re-save limits.
Tip: For bedrooms, set the mid-rail “fully up” a little below the headrail so the fabric stack doesn’t shadow the top cassette/valance at night.
2) Adjusting Upper & Lower Limits (All Bali Motorized Shades)
Limits define the safe travel endpoints. Set them precisely to protect hardware and align hem rails.
- In the app, pick a Bali shade > Settings > Positions / Limits.
- Upper Limit: Move the shade to the highest safe point (no contact with the headrail/valance). Tap Set Upper Limit > save.
- Lower Limit: Move the shade just above the sill/obstruction so rails are level and fabric is smooth. Tap Set Lower Limit > save.
- Cycle test: Run Up then Down twice. If it stops short or overtravels, adjust by a few percent and re-save.
Note: TDBU shades expose separate controls for each rail. Set limits for the mid rail and the bottom rail independently.
3) Setting Favorite (“My”) Positions
Favorites let you jump to useful scenes—e.g., glare-free laptop height, privacy at night, or a daily wake-up position.
- Move the shade (or rail, for TDBU) to the exact position you want.
- Tap Favorites (or Preset / My Position) > Save New Favorite.
- Name it (e.g., “Daytime Read,” “Evening Privacy”). On TDBU, specify whether the favorite applies to both rails together or to a specific rail.
- Test: Tap the Favorite to confirm the shade/rail travels to the saved spot reliably.
Pro Tip: Build a morning/evening routine by assigning different Favorites to a Room or Group and triggering them with a single tap (or a voice assistant if your Bali hub supports it).
Best Practices
- Stand close to the shade while saving limits/Favorites for the most responsive pairing.
- Keep stacks conservative—leave a small buffer so rails don’t contact trim or brackets over time.
- After changes, cycle twice to let motors learn the new endpoints.
Troubleshooting
- Limits won’t save: Confirm Bluetooth/hub is connected and the shade responds to jog commands; power-cycle the hub and retry.
- Rail stops unevenly (TDBU): Re-calibrate each rail’s upper/lower limit separately, then save a combined Favorite.
- Favorite lands slightly off: Re-send the Favorite, then re-save it at the exact position. Check for fabric drag on trim.
- Wrong shade moves: Rename shades clearly and verify you’re editing the correct device in the app before saving limits/Favorites.
