Great blinds!
Great blinds! We have a 9-foot-by-4-foot kitchen window facing west-southwest, right above our gas stovetop. The window lets in a lot of sun, making the room extremely hot in summer in Virginia. These blinds are true blackout blinds, they block all light and cool the room way down.
We chose to go with in-frame mounting, and the blinds look sleek and beautiful. There is something so subtle and classy about honeycomb blinds! Since it's a kitchen, we wanted a darker color to hide stains. Of the 4 color choices, Pawnee was the darkest, and it looks great. I wasn't sure it would match our kitchen's palette of white, black, and slate, but it's very unobtrusive, like, "Nothing to see here." Which is what we wanted, because the blinds cover such a large area of one wall.
We were worried about the blinds catching on fire, right above the gas stove. As a test, we held a fabric sample 6" above the gas flame on High. Paper and cloth will char or catch fire at that distance. The fire retardant fabric sample never even smoked or blackened, it just shriveled up.
Other notes: I love the top-down bottom-up feature. We can see the sky and the trees, but not our neighbors. We were worried that the blinds would be heavy to raise, since they are so long. They aren't heavy at all. One user review commented that "when using top down feature header pleats just hang down on ends. It looks terrible." We don't have that problem on ours, the header pleats look good. After two weeks, the only problem we've had is that the child-strangulation warning label is #*%@ing hard to remove. I'm pretty good at peeling labels off, but I will have to pull the blinds down and scrub with GooGone or something.
