Definitely light blocking, however they do not block a lot of sound. The shades seem quite heavy and I hope the pull strings will be able to support their weight over time.

I love my new blinds! I bought the top down bottom up. I lower them from the top and can walk around with privacy while I can still see outside. I have a hard time keeping the heat inside in the winter, because I have a lot of windows. The extra insulation these shades provide will be great. I will be purchasing more for upstairs.

We absolutely love our shades. The room we put them in has two 6' x 6' west facing windows. Therefore, it gets extremely hot on those windows. Not to mention, the light shining in on our big screen television. These shades have definitely kept out the light and the heat. The only problem we had with installation was the fact that we didn't receive all the hardware at first. As a matter of fact, that was our only problem with Blinds Chalet.

The blinds look and work great. However, I will caution that while the blinds themselves block out all light and the side tracks definitely help to keep light and air from coming through the sides some light leakage does occur but it is much lower than without the tracks. I have Eclipse Blackout Curtains and curved curtain rods from JC Penney and between the blinds, curtain rod (that goes to the edge of the wall) and the curtains the only light leakage is at the top of the curtains. I've temporarily put a sheet over the top of the curtain rod to keep the light out until I can find a more permanent solution. This set up has helped to keep the room temperature consistent (especially when the sun is beating on the windows) and really helps me sleep during day (since I work night shift). I would absolutely recommend the blinds but the blinds by themselves will not block all outside light from coming through but it will block a very large portion of it. Also, one of my blinds was missing the mounting bracket for the Cord Tensioner and Blinds Chalet sent me a replacement immediately - they were excellent to deal with.
