How to Re-string Venetian Blinds

Venetian blinds come in various sizes and types. Ranging from aluminum blinds, faux wood blinds, or real wood blinds. Over time the lift cords can wear and break from use. Replacing the cords yourself can save money.

Buy replacement string for your blinds. Contact the manufacturer for the size string you need. Many online websites sell replacement components for venetian blinds.

Remove your existing window blinds from your window. Most venetian blinds are hung with a bracket on each end at the top of the blinds. Remove the blinds from the brackets.

Remove the existing lift cords from the venetian blinds. Pull the plugs on the bottom side of the bottom rail of the blinds. Untie the knots at the ends of each lift cord. Thread the cords through the bottom rail and each slat. Next thread the cords through the holes in the headrail and remove them from the mechanisms within the headrail.

Cut new lift cords to replace the old ones using the old cords as a template to measure the length. We recommend cutting the a little longer and trimming the excess later.

Thread the new lift cord back through the mechanisms, headrail, blind slats, and bottom rail. Tie knots in each lift cord below the bottom rail at the same lengths.

Cut any extra length from the cords. Insert the plugs back into the bottom of the bottom rail.

Re hang the venetian blinds back into the existing mounting brackets.
