Whether you live in an apartment or if you're trying to renovate your home, there are many ways that you can improve a hallway that always appears dark and uninviting. With clever use of your light from windows and light fixtures, a dark hallway can be a lot brighter, according to Freshome.com.

In an apartment, you will have to use the small space to your advantage. Place a large standing mirror at the far end of the hallway, and install some strip lights above archways or along the ceiling. A recessed light on adjacent walls could also work to give the space a cheerier vibe.

In a larger house, installing some windows or a skylight will allow your home to take advantage of natural light throughout the day. With some large standing windows you can use some lightweight white draperies that will provide texture and sensual appeal to your home.

Soft sheer shades are cost-effective ways of improving your light usage. They provide superior light filtering capability and will still give you a view to the outdoors.
