Mary Cowan has been an interior designer for years and believes that it's the only job she could ever do. She recently interviewed with The Mississippi Press to share her designing process of visualizing the space before her, and choosing the perfect decorative accents to pull it all together.

Cowan measures every bit of the space before choosing any piece of furniture or decorative accent to be sure everything she needs will fit.

"I like to look at all the rooms of the house to give me an overall picture of how they live, their functions, what they need," Cowan told the news source. "You just need to get a feel of their lifestyle and what they're looking for in the end result.

She believes that today's hottest trends in interior design revolve around bold colors placed up against neutral backdrops. In addition, she finds that window blinds and shades can add a unique aesthetic to homes, and makes them a staple of her designs.
