Now that people are carrying around e-readers and listening to audio books in their cars, many interior designers are wondering what will happen to the book shelf in the American home. Book shelves have always been an easy way to fill up wall space and add depth and personality to your home, according to the Star Tribune.

"It's nice to have books around. They add so much ambiance," Jim Noble, a principal with Noble Interior Design, told the news source. "I hope we never live to see the day that books are eliminated from the home."

While they may just sit on a shelf, books have an uncanny ability to make a room feel cozy and lived-in. In addition, having large bookcases allows homeowners to add other personal heirlooms such as family photos, souvenirs and other pieces of flair. Coffee table books are great conversation starters and will help people learn more about you by what your read.

Of course the best interior designs feature proper use of lighting, so add some warmth to your living area with wood blinds. These functional designs offer superior light control and a natural accent for your interiors.
