Window treatments are perfect accents to your new blinds
Mar 1 2011
While window shades and blinds can provide their own aesthetic qualities, draperies and curtains also play a special role in interior design. Window treatment professionals Caryn O'Sullivan and Lonnice Zemke recently shared their expertise on how to effectively use window treatments in tandem with new blinds or shades, according to CBS New York.
Roller shades are functional and durable window treatments that can add insulating qualities to your windows.
"I compare fine drapery to fine jewelry," O'Sullivan told the news source. "Just like a great necklace, they're that finishing detail - they make a nice room a wow room."
The designers believe that considering function is essential when designing your drapes. If you have decorative blinds or shades, curtains can provide additional insulation. Textures are also very important, so try combining multiple colors and fabrics for the best effect.
Embellishments such as curtain rods, medallions and tie-backs are easy ways to give your windows some added personality. Lastly, proportion and the way the window treatments frame the windows will ensure that they stay functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Roller shades are the perfect option to increase your home's insulation, add color and light filtering qualities and provide a soft, drapery-style fabric to your windows.
