Fabric roller shades are in step with new fabric trends
Feb 2 2011
Homeowners shouldn't worry whether their latest attempt at interior design may be a passing fad or one that will stay in style for years to come.
Intricate patterns and bold colors are the trend in home decor fabrics.
"Interior design trends evolve in sweeps and arcs, not jarring, abrupt steps," said Philadelphia interior designer Donna Hoffman, in a news release.
One of the trends that Hoffman believes will take hold and remain a favorite is the new complexity in fabrics. She said she expects to see more detailed patterns, a diversity of textures and bold, large prints.
Multiple weaves interlocking different patterns are becoming popular, said Hoffman, whose work has been featured in Real Simple magazine. Chenille, tapestries and velvet are the luxury fabrics of choice right now. For a country look, linens take on a nubby texture with less shine.
Hoffman said she still favors classic neutrals for large upholstery pieces and relying on trendier colors and textures for pillows and accent pieces such as side chairs.
Another way to incorporate fabric trends is to choose window treatments, such as fabric roller shades, that offer a wide range of textures and colors.
