When friends and family arrive to celebrate the holidays, homeowners may want to be prepared with festive decorations and welcoming furniture. Chicago Now recently shared some tips with hosts that will help them wow any guest that comes through the door.

Simple touches can go a long way in conveying the spirit of the holidays. Hanging a wreath from the front door is a good start, because it is a sign of the season. To be more traditional, green decorations are effective, however those looking to be more festive by adding colorful dried flowers.

Inside the front hall, guests should be greeted with a brightly-lit space that beckons them into the home. Mirrors can enhance the effect of any lightning, contributing an extra dimension to any corner or wall, and a vibrant rug can act as a foundation of color.

If there's room, one may also want to include a corner table or bench. A table can support a lovely bouquet or early Christmas gifts and a bench can offer weary visitors a respite after a long journey.

For window treatments, one may want to hang wood blinds in the hall. These can be a source of comfort and warmth, with gentle, natural tones that lend a quiet dignity to any space.
