Cellular shades can help block summer noiseJun 10 2010 ![]() Cellular shades can help block summer noise David Coffin, director of Ball State University's audiology clinic, told Businessweek that typical summer noise like lawn mowers, traffic and fireworks can be between 90 and 140 decibels, adding that any noise above 80 decibels can cause hearing damage. "We are living in a society that gets louder every year," Coffin told the news source. "Now that the weather is warmer, we are exposed to all sorts of sounds that can lead to permanent hearing loss." According to the news provider, the National Center for Health Statistics estimates that almost 15 percent of Americans younger than 19 suffer from some form of hearing loss, and most hearing loss is not reversible. To reduce that amount of summertime noise that enters the house, homeowners may want to hang cellular shades. Experts report that installing cellular shades help block noise from the outside. Cellular shades boast other benefits as well - they are energy efficient, can help insulate a home and are aesthetically pleasing.
