Vertical blinds can help create an outdoor living room

When Janet and Larry French of Huntington Beach, California, became tired of their unused backyard, they decided to convert it into a place where they could throw a party of any size in a setting that was both outdoors and inside, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Designer Adam Wheeler took the flat lawn and created a patio that came to beautifully reflect the polished interior of an art gallery. This included '60s-style cork flooring and laminate counters, as well as picture rails and spotlights for showcasing different pieces.

The yard has blended with the new room, creating a natural border in the midst of a dignified and traditional setting. There is a fireplace on the patio, as well as eucalyptus plants growing around built-in benches.

"I envisioned the new space like a ruin that completes the geometry of the building," Wheeler told the news provider.

The Frenchs plan to use this feature of their home to host art exhibits and invite guests over to have parties.

Vertical blinds can be effective additions to sliding glass doors and other dividers that may be needed for transitional, outdoor and indoor spaces. These window treatments can block the view of the interior, so that guests can fully appreciate the outdoor setting.
