Pennslyvania gardner reuses woven shades outsideJun 8 2010 ![]() Pennslyvania gardner reuses woven shades outside According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, one of the more recent additions to Stookey's garden is an old rattan woven shade that she remade into a free-form tower to support flowers, twigs and foliage. Stookey's use of an unused window shade belies her intention to make the most out of any organic material she has at her disposal. "The idea is to use organic materials in unexpected, contemporary ways," Stookey told the news source. Not only does Stookey use her garden to recycle but as an artistic outlet as well, telling the news outlet, "I see my garden as a canvas, a big canvas." Homeowners looking to fill their own living space with eco-friendly window coverings can install bamboo woven shades. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, harvesting the bamboo plant does not destroy the plant's root system, which makes it a great renewable resource.
