Hang wood blinds to add classic appearance

A new building in Winona, Minnesota is using a wealth of elements from times past. The Winona Daily News reports that the 1,200 square foot addition to the Winona County History Center features everything from pine beams from the 1880s to stone elements from the 1920s.

Executive director of town's historical society, Mark Peterson, told the news source that the concept was to incorporate historical elements with a modern design. The project's architect, Joan Soranno, drew from the town itself to make the building work especially well. For example, a drinking fountain in Peterson's office dates to 1915 and was used in the nearby armory.

"We tried to use very common materials found all over the city so that the addition was contextual," Soranno informed the news provider.

Homeowners who wish to mimic the classic look that is present in the history center can do so by hanging wood blinds from their windows. The material can add a natural warmth and beauty to any room.
