Connecticut seminar teaches parents about child-safe blindsJun 1 2010 ![]() Connecticut seminar teaches parents about child-safe blinds "Instead of using fancy bedding as the focal point for decorating a baby's room, parents should choose a different inspiration, such as a colorful rug or wall art," color consultant Rita T told the news source, adding that parents should use zero-volatile organic compound paint so that their children won't be exposed to harmful toxic fumes. When choosing window dressings, Rita T reminded parents to consider both aesthetics and safety. "There are many wonderful decorating choices on the market today that are both beautiful and add special safety features to protect our children. [Look for] innovative window blind products that are either cordless or with a cord system that breaks apart under pressure." Cordless cellular shades are great in children's rooms, but parents may also consider installing the window treatments throughout their entire home, to prevent possible accidents. The organization Parents for Window Blind Safety recommends window shutters as a chic alternative to cordless blinds.
