Security Blinds and Shades for Your Windows
Security blinds are important and studies show window blinds can play a major role in home security. According the the FBI, in 2005, law enforcement agencies reported an estimated 2,154,126 burglary offenses. That is almost 6000 burglaries per day and over 4 burglaries per second (based on FBI 2005 crime report).
Here are some quotes from other sources on home security and window blinds:
Burglary Prevention Council"Keep some shades and blinds up and curtains open to maintain a normal, everyday appearance in your residence."
Window blinds and shades can be used to make your home lived in. Venetian blinds are good because they can be tilted to allow light in but still block the view of the valuables inside.
Wisconsin Builders Assocation"Curtains or blinds on garage windows also help protect against people seeing valuables inside whether or not you are home. Closed and locked garage doors also prevent access to interior doors that lead to the house. If you are going to be gone for any length of time, consider disconnecting electric door openers or putting a padlock on the garage door track."
Garage and shed windows should also be covered with security blinds or coverings. Blocking the view to anything a burglar would want to take will reduce the chance of burglary.
Protect America"Make sure to leave all your shades, curtains and blinds in the same position you normally would when you are home."
When you are away it is best to make your home appear that someone is still there.
Home Security and Window BlindsIn addition to adding security to your home, privacy blinds add a decorative enhancement to the living areas of your home. Blocking the view of burglars can greatly reduce the risk of theft. Security blinds are an excellent way to add to your home security.
