Roman shades convey a homey touch for both rooms and outdoor spaces

One way to make an easy transition from a home's interior to an outdoor deck or patio is by choosing window treatments that complement both the inside and outside spaces.

For instance, a roman shade in a nubby texture is a homey touch for a room, but also conveys an earthiness that a more sophisticated fabric will not. A neutral color for the shades also will blend in with the décor on both sides of the doorway.

Another way to accentuate an outside space in line with the interior decorating scheme is to make sure the proportion of the garden or deck furniture is in line with the home's size, according to the New Zealand Herald.

As with any makeover, redoing an outdoor area should be done with solid planning to determine which plants or existing furniture can be reused before new landscaping or new outdoor furnishings are brought in, the newspaper advised.

Finally, people should feel they are entering an extension of the home when they step into the outdoor space. This can be accomplished by using similar fabrics, colors and decorating styles outside that are in the adjacent rooms.
