Incorporating a traditional aesthetic with modern accents

Interior designer Todd Cross had a specific plan in mind when his clients told him that they wanted a new layout for their home that featured a number of antique furniture pieces. According to The Des Moines Register, Cross used some innovative techniques in the dining room area to give the space a renewed look.

The clients told Cross that they wanted to keep their antique dining room table and chairs, so he decided to give the seating a small update. He attached a mineral aqua blue pillow cushion onto the chairs to give the space a pop of color. Cross believes that taking something old and making it into a new piece is the easiest way to cut costs when decorating.

The designer also took special care when designing the light filtering ability in the room, and used a large valance and hanging curtains to accompany the two large bay windows. Additionally, he added a large mirror to give the illusion of more space.
