Mixing some soft and tailored elements to a bedroom satisfies everyone
May 6 2011
Using both masculine and feminine design elements is sure to make either a man or a woman comfortable with an updated bedroom décor.
A tailored, neutral bedroom can incorporate both masculine and feminine design elements.
"Your bedroom should be a serene oasis where the worries of the day melt away. Let big furniture pieces set the tone, while accent pieces, lighting, and color define your personal style," according to GoodHousekeeping.com. Please check out our complete line of Good Housekeeping window shades.
The color scheme, for instance, should use neutrals for the main colors, with bold hues as accents. The same colors can carry over into the window treatment with simple roller shades in a solid color or in a pattern that coordinates with other soft furnishings such as pillows.
A tailored bed ensemble can have a straight-edged bedskirt pleated at each corner that is offset with a softer, embroidered edge on a coverlet. A low-pile area rug adds a soft touch without a fluffy look.
The furniture in a bedroom that includes both masculine and feminine influences may include a small writer's desk and an upholstered bench at the foot of the bed. Decorative pieces, artwork and lamp styles can be geometric, but in subdued colors to soften the look.
