Roman shades offer traditional, effective option

A Toronto-based interior designer is creating a unique idea for window treatment. The National Post reports that Lois Macaulay is using the wardrobe from a 1961 French film as inspiration for drapes. She began to watch the film to learn French terms for interior design as she wants to work some day Paris, but she ended up learning something else.

"I never expected to see an idea for drapes walking down the stairs, fabric trailing behind," Macaulay told the news source.

While not everyone can fashion window treatments out of a dress, interior decorator Mary Bannet says the recent trend has been simple Roman shades because they are easy to match with any room.

"Condo windows are usually wall-to-wall, have unattractive trims, or difficult layouts because of bulkheads, so the easiest thing is to go with blinds or simple window treatments," Bannet told the news source.

Aside from being an all purpose shade, Roman shades are especially cost effective and industry experts say that they are a fantastic choice for providing privacy and also for blocking sunlight.
