Increase your energy efficiency with greenhouse shades
Apr 1 2011
Homeowners that have installed greenhouses in their homes obviously have a green thumb and love the natural accent it provides. Unfortunately, even with double paned windows, greenhouses tend to release much of their internal heat during the winter and heat up rapidly during the summer. The addition of cell shades or shutters will help to cut down on utility costs to make the space more functional.
Choosing the perfect shades for your greenhouse will help reduce your energy bills.
No matter what the size of your greenhouse, you can have window shades and blinds custom-made to suit your space. One idea is to use plantation shutters, which give the space the look of real wood and provide excellent insulation. The products are available in composite or vinyl materials that will provide years of use.
Honeycomb cellular shades are another option that provides superior insulating abilities. You could opt for a translucent double cell shade to let some light into your space. These shades are rated five times higher than single pane windows in terms of thermal performance, so you can be confident your energy bills will decrease.
If you'd like a bit more privacy, try some blackout double cell shades. These will provide the same energy-saving benefits and adding a decorative accent to your greenhouse.
