If you've recently moved into a small apartment in the city, you may feel a bit unsure of how to use the lack of space. In actuality, one of the easiest ways to create the illusion of more space and to improve the light filtering capabilities of your apartment is with creative use of window treatments.

According to The Seattle Times, the addition of draperies to your apartment can work wonders to make it feel more like home.

"Add a touch of drama and create a more comfortable feel with curtains. Hang them outside the window or even where there are no windows. Hang them floor-to-ceiling to create height or have them flow from a cornice that hides the curtain rod," said the news source.

In conjunction with your new curtains and drapes, the addition of some light-filtering shades such as Soft Sheer shades could be the finishing touch for your interior design. These shades offer privacy while still providing a view to the outdoors. This will reduce glare in your apartment and create the perfect ambiance for your space. In addition, window shades and blinds can help reduce the cost of your utility bills by controlling air leakage.
