Interior design majors take tour of Chicago firm
Feb 28 2011
The interior design students at Bowling Green University recently traveled to the Merchandising Mart in Chicago, Illinois, to experience first-hand the professional world of interior design. The curriculum for design students has changed drastically due to the recession, with sustainable materials and energy-efficient materials being central to the growing field, according to The BG News.
Honeycomb cellular shades are the perfect option for those who would like to decrease the size of their energy bills.
"Students take courses that educate them on sustainability, lighting, structures and materials," Debra Zappitelli, interior design program coordinator, told the news outlet.
The Merchandising Mart is a special treat for these students as it is the world's largest commercial building and wholesale design center. The center hosts more than three million visitors each year and showcases 11 floors of permanent design showrooms, 10 floors of office space and countless trade shows and educational events, according to their website. The building is a perfect opportunity for interior design students to refine their skills and gain inspiration that will influence their work.
Those looking to reduce the size of their utility bills can consider honeycomb cellular shades. These provide additional insulation for your home in single cell or double cell varieties to prevent air leakage.
