TV design show host Thom Filicia doesn't believe in sacrificing comfort to create an elegant look for a bedroom, or to follow a trend that doesn't take into account one's personal taste.

He sums up his decorating style in three words – comfort, sophistication and personality. "I believe in creating spaces that are unique to each individual, using color, pattern and texture to reflect one's personality," he told CasaDiseno.com.

That approach has made Filicia a sought-after designer, from his hosting duties on the Style Network's show Dress My Nest to his book, Thom Filicia Style: Inspired Ideas for Creating Rooms You'll Love.

When it comes to setting the tone for a bedroom, Filicia focuses on the bedding by using a mix of lush colors, bold patterns and a variety of textures for comforters, pillows and other pieces.

One way to choose a window treatment that complements the bedding is to shop for custom blinds online. Window blinds can be fitted to any size window in a variety of colors and finishes to match any décor.

The right lighting adds to a restful bedroom. "We spend so much time in our beds and they become a retreat for us at the end of the day," Filicia told the website.
