Soft sheer shades protect collectibles on display walls from sun damage

A new way to display accessories and collectibles is in a display wall, which can be freestanding or built-in as a focal point in a room.


"Who cares if it's from Sotheby's, Target or the flea market? Who'll know or think to ask if it's in a feature wall?" stated interior designer Donna Hoffman, in a release.


Hoffman, whose design business is based in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, said homeowners can create a niche with shelves surrounding a sofa or other prominent piece of furniture to show off their favorite treasures.


The most dramatic display wall is one that is built from floor to ceiling, and if space allows, wall to wall. In addition to shelving, cubbies or a nook in a room can be used to create the display area.


Home decorators who are concerned about sun damage to their collectibles should choose window treatments that bring light into a room, but filter out the strongest sun rays to prevent fading of fabrics or other materials affected by direct light.


Soft sheer shades have an elegant look, but are durable enough for use anywhere in a dwelling. While they allow filtered light to enter a room, they also maintain visibility of outside views.
