Clean wood blinds and mini-blinds to help reduce allergensJun 22 2010 ![]() Clean wood blinds and mini-blinds to help reduce allergens "What many people fail to realize is how much indoor allergens play a role in exacerbating symptoms from sinus congestion and headaches to asthma," Dr. Marc Meth, an allergist on the staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, told SGVTribune.com. To reduce indoor allergens, however, homeowners may want to focus on redecorating their bedrooms, the area where many people may spend most of their time. Since fabrics can trap allergens, those who suffer from allergies may want to consider hanging wood blinds and mini-blinds, as wood and aluminum are easy to clean and won't hold onto dust the way other window treatments can. But, even after installing the blinds, homeowners should remember to clean the window hangings thoroughly. "We understand how crippling allergies can be to people," says Chris Stanley of Blinds Chalet. "Cleaning the house once a week, including window treatments, can help alleviate a lot of allergy symptoms and create a safe haven for allergy sufferers."
