British-born interior designer Katie Lydon brings a lively and sometimes retro look to the rooms she designs, often mixing modern art with antique and vintage items.
Designer Katie Lydon likes to mix contemporary and vintage furnishings.
According to Elle Décor magazine, Lydon strives to create a unique design for her clients that is a combination of streamlining what they already own and adding new furnishings that reflect their personality.
"Out with the junk and add some splashes of color! I want to streamline accessories and peel it back to the necessities," Lydon told the magazine. "Then I can really start to plan the next phase, which will be continuing to make spaces unique.
Lydon, whose design business is based in New York, said she likes to give artwork a central place in a room and coordinate them with bold colors. Currently, rose pink and peacock blue are among her favorite colors.
In keeping with Lydon's style, soft sheer shades have an elegant look to offset vintage items, but a simple design that fits contemporary decor. They are a durable choice for any room, allowing in filtered light while maintaining visibility of outside views.
