To create a visual contrast, one may instead want to hang artwork over a subtle background paper. Alternatively, homeowners can choose to go all-out with their patterns so that there's no need for other wall decorations.

The ceiling can be the trickiest part of the process. If one does choose to apply wallpaper to the top of a room, Gordon recommends making sure that the colors don't clash with the walls.
