The new year is an ideal time for homeowners to reevaluate their interior design themes and try to think about what can be improved. There are many ways to add some new, creative flair to a space, according to The Providence Journal.

One of the most effective additions to a room in need of a facelift can be a plant. Whether in a pot,ac on the coffee table or a four-foot stalk in the corner, living things can add a breath of fresh air to the room while at the same time making it feel more natural.

Consignment stores can also be great venues for finding new pieces to add to a home while at the same time getting rid of ones that may have worn out their welcome. "Consignment stores are especially great for coffee tables, vintage art, mirrors and wooden chairs," interior designer Kate Jackson told the news source.

Window treatments can go a long way in transforming a room. The crisp pleats of pleated shades have a clean and put-together look whether they are neatly drawn to the top of the window or pulled down for privacy.
