There has been a lot of speculation about whether going green is a fashion fad bound to fade away within the next few months or whether it will be the next big thing. Interior designer Pavitra Rajaram is one advocate of the latter opinion.

"Ecologically sensitive design is here to stay. From incorporating solar energy and water harvesting to using sustainable materials like bamboo, recycled wood and natural stone and teaming this with natural organic cottons and linens is not only good design, it also smart design. It is the way of the future," Rajarm told India's The Daily News & Analysis.

She also expects that brighter colors will be more popular for furniture, while fabrics will offer a soft, neutral appearance with deep grays, indigos and teals. She also recommends white candles, flowers and fluffy towels as a way to enhance the home with a lasting and dependable addition.

Many aspects of interior design can now be "greened," even window treatments. Bamboo woven wood shades are ideal window treatments for the eco-conscious, because no chemicals are used ruing the harvest or manufacturing processes and they are also made from a renewable resource.
