The trend of downsizing has also led homeowners to opt for pieces that will last. Bernerd predicts that wood, stones, leather and metallics will be popular in the near future.

Interior designer Kelly Hoppen suggests that individuals try to dress up walls in wallpaper and add thick, luxurious rugs for comfort.

One should also try to invest in window treatments that are long-lasting and beautiful. Roman shades can be designed to accommodate any household, because they are available in a number of different styles and colors.
