Interior designer Candice Olson recently shared some of her top design principles with The Winnipeg Free Press, right before her show, Candice Tells All, premiers as a forum for her to explain all of the secrets she uses when designing rooms.

For example, Olson detailed the first episode's theme of indestructible and stylish pieces. The home she and her crew work on is one owned by a couple and their young children, so durability is a key component to each space.

Here, Olsen emphasizes classic pieces that are sturdy enough to resist playtime. Additionally, she decorated the furniture with upholstery than can cleaned in the case of spills and other mishaps.

One of the biggest trends she has noticed recently is the pared down and sparse look, which many homeowners seem to be unable to replicate.

"A lot of it is just quite simply creative storage ideas," she told the news source.

When one is experimenting with different styles, it also helps to have window treatments that can accommodate the decorations. Horizontal fabric shades emulate the look of several different window treatments, making them both beautiful and adaptable to any theme.
