Interior designer Glen Peloso, who has been in the business for 15 years and also appeared on multiple television shows, recently wrote a special column for The Toronto Star detailing some steps that homeowners can take to make a home fit their individual needs.

For example, he recently reformed his parents' home so that each feature went along with their tastes. He knew that his mother, who has adhered to the mantra of "cleanliness is next to godliness," would appreciate a black granite floor and also be one of the people who would keep it spotless.

The home of his brother and sister-in-law, on the other hand, required a different approach. Their household put more of an emphasis on durability, because they had three children and participated in a slew of extracurricular activities.

Peloso advises that a household should be judged by one thing, if nothing else - whether it makes residents feel happy.

One way to easily make a space fit the needs of a homeowner is to install vertical blinds on sliding glass doors. This can effectively create a divider intimate area that can be used for privacy and comfort, while also being aesthetically pleasing.
