Roman shades can help open up a small living spaceJun 17 2010 ![]() Roman shades can help open up a small living space "Get rid of the heavy draperies - they make the room darker and weigh down the window," interior designer Gail Cleeland told NorthJersey.com. "Make your drapery lighter. It lets more light in the house and opens up the room a bit." According to Andrew Dunning, head designer of APD Interiors, those interested in lighter window treatments should consider new shades. "Let the light into the room with roman [shades] which still let in a lot of light even when pulled," he told City A.M. Dunning also suggests that individuals who install roman shades should also hang mirrors to bounce the light around the room and open up the space, and select light colors. "Light, softer colors [sic] will embrace the feeling of openness," he said. Because Roman shades are available in a wide range of styles, homeowners will be able to find a window covering that matches any decor.
