The international trend board at IMM Cologne recently released a book detailing some of the interior design trends that are expected for 2011 and the most popular theme appears to be emotional austerity, according to The Independent.

This means that many homeowners are downsizing their homes in the wake of the financial crisis, opting for rooms that are more traditional than modern, but with many high-tech and sophisticated touches.

As for furnishings, these are expected to be unique as well. Sharp angles or folded structures that boast ash gray and blacks.

Additionally, the board has found that many households are demanding personalized products that cater to their hobbies and interests. These can make a space feel more comfortable and inviting.

Glass and metal have also taken precedence in homes that are experimenting with new kinds of decorations. These are generally complemented by hard and soft plastics.

Wood blinds may fit this new international trend as window treatments, because they bring a charming, natural look to any room without being too flashy. Instead, these blinds add an element of relaxation and elegant simplicity to a room.
