Laundry room can be lightened with bright color and window treatment
Dec 9 2010
There's no reason a laundry room has to be a dark, uninviting corner of the basement or closet-sized space next to the kitchen.
There's no reason the laundry room can't be a bright, decorated space in the home.
According to HGTV.com., a work center can be designed to incorporate other clothes-related duties in the same area. An ironing board and overhead rack for hangers, as well as a surface for folding clothes are basic additions. Shelving for laundering products and equipment are also a must.
But if space allows, a comfortable chair and lighting can be set up for hand sewing or a chance to relax with a magazine while the laundry gets done.
Painting the laundry area sets it apart from other nearby rooms or basement sections and give a jolt of bright color to the area, the website recommends. A small bulletin board for children's drawings or family photos can also make this spot more inviting when laundry duties beckon.
If there's a window nearby, an attractive window treatment will bring a decorator touch to the space. Aluminum mini-blinds are easy to use, affordable and can match any color scheme. They can be installed with or without overlying curtains and can be fitted to any size window.
