With the official start of summer only days away, keeping cool may become increasingly important. Climbing temperatures will affect more than just people - indoor pets can easily become overheated without proper protection from the sun.

According to Charleston's WBCD, keeping a comfortable indoor climate can be beneficial to pets as small as goldfish and as big as dogs.

"You need to be mindful that a dog can overheat - you can tell by the way the dog is panting and sticking out his tongue,"George Smith of Savannah Chatham Animal Control told the source. "Just make sure you take precaution with it."

Turning on air conditioning seems like the logical choice, but for those looking to save money on their electricity bill the proper window treatment could be just as effective.

Industry experts say that honeycomb shades are the most common choice for homeowners looking to cool of their house, but there are also other choices. Homeowners can also hang thermal roman shades which allow individuals to stylishly insulate their homes.
