Motorized blinds can help seniors age safely at homeDec 2 2010 ![]() Motorized blinds can help seniors age safely at home Interior designer Amy Eisenberg has started to incorporate this trend by redesigning houses so that their residents can age safely in place. From making kitchen cabinets easier to reach to designing wheelchair-accessible rooms, each one of her projects is based on an individual's needs. "Every scenario is different, so I go into the home and evaluate what needs to be done. It could be something as simple as painting a bright line on a transition point, such as steps," she told the news provider. She got the idea for helping older adults when her parents started to have trouble in different parts of their home. Now, Eisenberg is installing grab bars in bathrooms and reformatting stairs so that they are safer for aged homeowners. Window treatments should also be considered when one is thinking about making a house that is safe for older adults. Motorized blinds can be turned on by a switch, so one doesn't need to cross a dark room to raise them.
