Cacti and succulents can be offset by bamboo woven wood shades
Nov 15 2010
Homes that have lots of windows facing south and west - and plenty of light streaming into the house - are tailor-made for growing desert cacti and succulents that flourish in direct sunlight.
Miniature cacti, like their desert counterparts, are sun lovers and thrive near sunny windows.
According to GardeningKnowHow.com, cacti and succulents are easy plants to grow and great for beginnings who want to add plant life to their décor. Overwatering can cause their roots to rot so they should be planted in well-drained compost.
In spring and summer, cacti should be watered with lukewarm water. But in winter, these plants should be allowed to dry almost completely, which allows them to grow dormant. A dusting of leaves periodically also helps them stay healthy.
"They are suitable for the sunniest of spots in your home. If you build some shelves across a sunny window you will be providing them with what they love," states the website, adding that cacti and succulents should be turned regularly so all sides of the plant get equal sunny exposure.
With their variations in color and texture, bamboo woven wood shades offer a natural look that goes well with houseplants. They are an attractive window treatment that can be raised for bright lighting.
