Bamboo woven wood shades are an eco-friendly choice for green decoratingNov 5 2010 ![]() The Greenbuild International Conference and Expo is expected to draw about 27,000 people this month. InteriorDesign.net reports that General Colin Powell, the former Secretary of State and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will address an estimated crowd of 27,000 at the conference, planned from November 17 to 19. Greenbuild is the annual meeting of the U.S. Green Building Council, which sets design and building standards for energy-saving and sustainable construction. But this isn't the first time that Powell has met with green movement leaders. He attended the LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification ceremony for an affordable housing building in New York's South Bronx, where he grew up. The General Colin L. Powell Apartments were built by Habitat for Humanity in partnership with a private developer. The green movement has also influenced interior decorating, with energy-efficient appliances as well as furnishings, flooring and window shades in natural materials. Bamboo woven wood shades are a stylish and eco-friendly choice for a window treatment that adds earth tones and texture to a room.
