Mix traditional and contemporary elements with faux wood blindsNov 4 2010 ![]() Mix traditional and contemporary elements with faux wood blinds Bruce and Melanie Rosenbaum decided to design their 1901 home with a Victorian twist, and much of their creative theme depended on the tasteful placement of older machinery and gears. "When we started this three years ago, we didn’t even know what steampunk was," Bruce told the news provider. "An acquaintance came through the house and said 'You guys are steampunkers.' I thought, 'Wow, there's a whole group out there that enjoys blending the old and new.'" Some of the more unique items in the home include a computer monitor embellished with a copper-colored frame, as well as a hearth that evokes images of a Victorian industrial building. While some homeowners may not be able to imitate the complete adaptation of the Rosenbaums to the theme, there are other ways to blend traditional and contemporary elements. Faux wood blinds are affordable window treatments that have the dignity and warm texture of wood, but are also durable.
