Power outlets should be the first consideration when planning this room, because the cords of electronics and accessories can often turn into a confusing jungle of wires. A desk with ample storage space and an organized power strip are highly recommended.

Interior designer Annette Hannon recommends that parents also take age and studying skill into account, and ask questions.

"What do they think is the single most difficult aspect of studying? What subject do they love? What do they feel is the most difficult subject? These are jumping-off points that can help define the most effective study space for a child," Hannon told the news provider.

Window treatments should also be considered, since these can eliminate distractions from the outdoors. Roller shades are ideal for creating a calm study space, because they can be fully drawn during work time and raised during play.
